Award Season. Last time I did an awards post, I shamelessly said that I love receiving blog awards, and I guess you really heard me. Thank you Pam, Phampants, Erin, AshleyD, Elle, Andrea, Katie, and Megan.

I’m just going to pass one of these awards on.

The Honest Scrap award comes with a caveat or two. First, you must tell your readers 10 true things about yourself that they may not know. Second, you must tag 10 people with the award.

I resisted doing this earlier, because I wasn’t sure I could think of 10 things that you don’t already know about me, especially since I long ago wrote a list of 100 things about me, and this blog is basically composed of confessions of all of my quirks. But, I think I can do this.

1. I’ll start with a confession. I edited the text that describes this award, because I didn’t think it flowed very well and it included the words firstly and secondly, which seem ridiculous when first and second do the same job. I like efficient writing.

2. I love Harry Potter. I read the first book when I was a senior in high school, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I can’t wait for the new movie coming out in July!!! Also, I think that Hedwig’s theme (the most recognizable theme from HP) is one of the most perfect pieces of music I have ever heard. John Williams is a genius–no doubt.

3. I have electricity running through my veins. I’m not sure about the science of this, but I shock everything I touch. We have several doors at work with metal key pads, and I always try to touch them with my fingernails first, so that the shock isn’t so bad. If I don’t use conditioner, then my hair is visibly static-y.

4. You’ve heard of pack rats, but have you heard of compulsive get-rid-of-ers? Well, I am one of those. I have to get rid of things that I don’t use, and sometimes I even have to fight off temptation to get rid of things that I do use. This is hard for me to explain, but I like to be organized, so I don’t like things that don’t fit well into my scheme. And, I have an existential problem with being tied to a bunch of stuff, so I feel better when I have less crap to my name.

5. Here are a few things you may not know about my blog, and those of you who do know may have forgotten. I started last may using Blogger under a different domain. The name of my blog was Average Ashley (averageashley.com). In September, I switched to my current domain and started using WordPress.com. In November, I made the impulsive decision to switch to a self-hosted WordPress blog even though I had no idea what I was doing. I figured it out, and here we are. I don’t plan on moving again, but I can be impulsive, so who knows.

6. I secretly want to be a rock star. I want to stand on a stage and sing meaningful lyrics that I wrote to a group of people who already know and care about my music. This isn’t a real dream for me, but I think it sounds awesome.

7. Except for a few people who know me and my humor really well, usually people don’t laugh at my jokes. I never deliver them in a haha kind of way, and sometimes people don’t get what I’m saying or don’t get it right way (because of my delivery and not because they’re not smart enough or anything). People more often say “that’s funny” than laugh. I’ve always been critical of people who continue to tell jokes even when no one’s laughing, but I’ve recently realized that I am one of those people.

8. I come from a family of pet haters. That’s right. My mom, dad, step-dad, brother, and countless others don’t like pets. They don’t go around kicking puppies (as far as I know), but they just don’t understand why you’d keep a pet when they smell and cost money and ruin the carpet. I, on the other hand, cannot wait to get a dog. I just don’t feel financially secure enough right now.

9. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit resentful about the fast paced world we now live in. I love love love the internet, but it feels like things are going all the time, and you can never get away. Even when I take a deliberate break, things keep going, so I have to catch up when I get back. I keep thinking especially about what it might have been like to be a graduate student several decades ago.

10. When I was little, my neighbor and I created a neighborhood newspaper. We originally called it The Neighborhood News, but then a neighbor suggested we call it The Broadview Review (we lived on Broadview Drive). I wrote an editorial about how us neighborhood kids should really get along instead of engaging in water balloon wars. I think we probably published 3-5 issues. We weren’t a big hit, but I still think it was a good idea. Local news at its best!

Okay, that’s it. Now I really am out of random facts about myself. On to the tagging! If you’ve already received this award (and, you know, gave it to me) or you don’t like awards, then just smile and know I’m a fan.

Here’s my feeling on blog awards. I love getting them (so keep that in mind!), but I always seem to get lost between my good intentions of passing them on and actually handing them out. But, I figure that if people like receiving them as much as I do, then I should really make the effort. So, here I go.

Daisy from Australian Daisy gave me the Arte Y Pico Award (creative blog award)

I’d like to pass this on to:

I have the tendency to give awards to the same people over and over, and I tried to avoid that this time. So, if I’ve given you an award before, I still love you–like, the creepy kind of love–so don’t you fear. Or do fear, because that might be me looking in your window!
