Internet! I missed you! I hope you missed me too, but I’m trying to play it cool.
To be honest, this was the first break from the internet I’ve taken that wasn’t 95% motivated by angst. The #VEDA requirement of being on every day did not get to me this year, my current relationship with technology is pretty healthy, and I wasn’t trying to get away from anyone or anything. So I just had a really nice and quiet week+ free of the normal distractions.
School started last week, and even though I’m no longer in coursework, I get swept up in the whole thing. I’m back to working late hours after a Summer of working days, and it has been so nice. September is my favorite month of the year, and even though Fall isn’t really Fall here in California, the start of a new school year is enough to fill me with optimism. Eventually it will be cold enough to wear cardigans.
On Saturday, I went to LA to see The Thrilling Adventure Hour live. I bought a ticket, because I was dying to see Paul F. Tompkins, and his show isn’t until October. I’d only listened to the podcast a couple times before, but in the week leading up to it I listened to several episodes and fell in love. It was my first show at Largo, and I had an amazing time, and Paul F. Tompkins remains my favorite comedian.
I started a secret project back in August that I want to tell you about! After reading Steal Like An Artist, I was inspired to start a blog where I answer the question, “What’s the best thing that happened today?” Variations on this idea have never moved me to action, because I don’t really struggle with perspective, but I like the idea of recording the single best thing that happens to me every day. You can find me at totesthebest.com. Feel free to subscribe or follow on tumblr.
After a Summer of staying here in California, I am off tomorrow to go home to Washington state. I haven’t been home since Christmas, which means that this is officially the longest I have ever been away. I will have a couple days with my family, and then Ashley and Nicole will be coming up to stay with me. That’s right, I am bringing the internet home to meet my family. We have some awesome things planned, but as usual, I’m just looking forward to spending time with the girls. They make my heart feel light.
And then I’ll be back in California for a couple days before I GO TO GERMANY. That’s right, finally! I’m not even sure what to say about it anymore. Ahhh. So excited.
I don’t know what any of this means for the blog, but I am totes here. Hi!

So excited for you!!!!! You have inspired me, ma’am :)
Totes the Best is one of those times where I kind of just want to copy it wholesale.
Welcome back BFF! We did miss you.
September does indeed sound like the best month for you!
I did miss you and that makes me even more excited that I get to see your face on Thursday! Thursday!
I came back from my month off and was really sad/confused why you weren’t around. Glad you’re back, too! :)
Washington and Germany in quick succession! That’s so freaking exciting!!!
so happy for you!!!!

It sounds like you used your time off well… and so many exciting things to come! Where in Germany are you going??
I would also like to know where in Germany you are going. I have been there twice, it’s super fantastic! If you want to hangout with some Germans, I know some, I’m sure they would love to show you around!
Also, I love the idea of writing the best thing of everyday! Gratitude is essential in happiness. I can’t wait to see what you post there during your Germany trip!

Hi! SO excited for your upcoming adventures, especially the Germany one! When exactly do you leave for Germany?
Thats the best thing about going away, you get to come back. Then you get to go away again.
Groetjes
I’ve thought about starting a new blog where I write about one thing each day that happened of which I am most grateful. I think a lot of times I lose perspective on my life, and it makes me come off a bit of a brat. Maybe people don’t really notice it, but it’s something I notice in myself, and I want to try to make myself think in a way that’s more appreciative and compassionate.
I LOVE your “Totes the Best” blog. I used to do something similar on Tumblr—until I quit tumbling. Now I just keep a cute composition notebook and do the exact same thing.
Can’t wait to hear all about Germany!
