I wasn’t planning on going home this Summer. A friend is getting married in October and for lack of money and vacation time, I was planning on just going home then and skipping my normal Summer trip. But, I was sad about it.
I saw my dad, brother, and sister in March and my mom and step-dad in May, but I’ve never gone 10 months without seeing Washington. I miss the place.
It would appear that going home is about more than just seeing the people there.
It means a lot to me just to be there. Driving through the cities where my fiction takes place, walking by the water, sitting on my parents’ deck writing. It brings me some kind of peace.
Last week my mom called me and insisted that I come home at least for a long weekend. Apparently I was just waiting for the call, because I didn’t need any convincing.
It seems exactly what I need. I can’t wait to see my family and to have some kind of vacation this Summer is such a relief.

Aww I feel the same way about my home – going home last week after being away for 5 months just felt right!
So glad you decided to go home :)
Just going back to the place that feels like home is priceless. I am so glad that you’re going back for a quick visit. Sometimes just a weekend is enough to restore your senses and bring some feelings of peace.
So glad you get to go back, even if it is just for a little visit. It’s going to be wonderful for you :) (And that picture is GORGEOUS btw!)
I wasn’t planning on going home til X-mas, but then my friend got engaged and will get married in September so I get a 3 day weekend at home! It will be a whirlwind wedding weekend (not so relaxing), but I’m really excited. I’m glad you get to go home!
I was so impressed with your state when I was there last October. I am jealous you have so much beauty up there. All I have is corn here in Illinois. Oy!
So glad you get a chance to come back!
Not only do you get some quality family time in, but it’s that perfect time of year in WA. I wait all year long for summer to show up, it’s beautiful.
When I lived in Southern California, I missed Seattle like CRAZY. Whereabouts does your family live?
I sooooo want to visit there! And Portland! And Seattle!
From what little I’ve seen of Washington, it looks like a place I would miss too. The countryside seems to have that unspoilt American wilderness aspect to it, which I think a lot of people from the Old World are quietly fascinated by, seeing as that’s the reason people went to North America in the first place. And I’m sure your towns and cities are nice also.
I’m glad you’re getting to go home. I’m lucky in that my hometown is only 10 miles away from where I live now. I can be home in the space of an hour by public transport and it only costs me six pounds maximum. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be so far away from home.
I agree with you. Home always has such a distinct feeling that nothing else can really fill the void of. Every now and then, it’s so nice to have it filled. Have a great time, and beautiful photo btw!
I really miss Washington too, and I only went to college there. We’re actually planning a trip back to Seattle for a long weekend in early August and I can’t wait! Hope you get to go home soon!
I think it’s great! I know if I ever end up leaving my home state, I’ll have to come back for frequent visits because I love it so much. I couldn’t imagine going 10 months, so it’s awesome that you get to go back, even if it’s just a short visit.
I’m glad you get to go home to visit! I know what you mean … I miss Florida sometimes, and I need to go back soon to visit.
