Like a Magic Eight Ball, But Way Less Vague

by Ashley on January 13, 2010

This is one of those posts where I ask you to ask me questions.

I have wanted to do this forever, but I resisted, because everyone else was doing it.  It seems to me now that “because everyone else is doing it” is simultaneously the worst reason to do something and the worst reason not to do something.  I mean, I’m not considering jumping off a bridge or anything.  So, when I saw Allison’s post, I started thinking about it again.  More because I’m interested in what questions you might have for me than anything else.

So, please ask me something.  About me, about being a grad student, about theology, about writing, about blogging, about politics, about getting out of debt, about makeup or nail polish, about living in California, about growing up in Washington, about being awesome, about books and tv and movies and music, about working in a library, about sentence fragments (like this one), or whatever else.

Okay . . . I’ll go for a beauty related question. You have lovely straight hair. Is there a particular product you use to make it so lovely and straight?

I’m going to go for a debt-related question, having had a similar struggle of my own. My story involved dating someone a few years ago who I trusted wholeheartedly, and who ended up stealing thousands of dollars from me in the end before running out of town never to be seen again – I was left with his accumulation of about $12k worth of debt, which meant a big change in lifestyle, putting school on the backburner, and entering the oh-so-thrilling world of roommates… if it’s not too bold to ask, how did you get into debt, and what’s your way of dealing with it?

Yay! I have inspired another blogger! Woohoo!

So… here’s my question. I noticed on you 101 Things About Me list you said “My liberal politics are not separate from my Christian faith; they are motivated by my Christian faith.” (yay! me too!) Can you share your testimony and/or elaborate on #64 a bit, about how you reached that conclusion. I am fascinated by liberal Christians! Mostly because I know so few.

Also: you have read Blue Like Jazz, yes?

What is it like being so awesome?

Wait, I should probably choose something less abstract…

If you could only eat one kind of food for the rest of your life (not one dish, one cuisine), what would you choose?

OR

Who are some of your favorite theologians and/or your thoughts on liberation theology?

I’m really interested in the structure/schedule of peoples days and you seem to have an insanely busy life so I’d love to know what a typical day in your schedule looks like? :)

What are your current feelings about living in southern CA?

What do you miss about Washington?

Do you think you’ll ever move back to the Pacific NW, or somewhere else entirely?

Or will that depend on what job offers you get after school?

Phampants and I are carpooling to VidCon. Would you like to carpool?

Also: Train A, traveling 70 miles per hour (mph), leaves Westford heading toward Eastford, 260 miles away. At the same time Train B, traveling 60 mph, leaves Eastford heading toward Westford. When do the two trains meet?

Okay, so I know you work at a library. What kinds of stuff do you do and do you enjoy it?

Also, at what age did you start writing?

Right, my question is this,

when everyobody was asking you, What are you going to do with an English/ Theology degree, what WAS your answer?
The reason I ask is that I’ve just started my degree in Theology and Religious Studies in Wales, and all everybody seems to ask me is what I’m going to do with it….and I need a good comeback!

Thanks, and looove the blog!

If you could take a trip to anywhere in the world (imagine time and money are no object), where would you go, and what is it about that place that interests you?

I love this idea! And I have two questions for you. One, what led you to choose theology as your course of study? And two, how is it living in California? Was it a scary transition picking up and moving to a state where you knew no one?

Do you have a favorite book?
How about a favorite song?
If a movie was done about your life, who would you like to play you?
What’s your thesis about? (If you can tell us)
What’s your opinion about evolution?

I’m late! Are you even still doing this? That’s not an official question. But here are some:

What kind of blogs do you usually read? Do they tend to be of a typical style, particular content, or do they stem from blog friendships?

Down the road, when the schooling’s all done, what impact do you hope to achieve in your career?
