It’s Friday, You Know

by Ashley on January 8, 2010

  • I never say I have writer’s block, because it never quite applies and I’m not sure where I stand on the debate as to whether it’s a real phenomenon or not.  But, I do know that sometimes writing is easy and other times it’s a struggle, sometimes writing is the only thing I want to do and other times I can’t seem to get by butt in a chair and my hands on a keyboard.  Right now I’m experiencing the fourth of these things more than the second.  It’s not that I can’t write; it’s just that I don’t feel impelled to by the force of the whole universe like I normally do.  But, I keep kind of going anyway, because blogging is such a big part of my life and I just can’t not blog.
  • I am back to work and everything, but school has not yet begun.  I’m enjoying the two weeks of calm before the undergrads return and class begins.  It’s nice not to be running around like crazy.  I can actually enjoy the beauty.  I love college campuses.
  • Speaking of school, I got my grades yesterday.  Actually, I got two of them on Monday and spent the rest of the week checking the website 15 times a day until the last one finally appeared.  I had a wild hope that it would a 4.0, but I came up a bit short:  A, A, A-.  That blasted A-!  I also had a wild fear that I’d been an idiot to think I could work a full time job and a part time job, while being a student, and that my grades would reflect that, so I’m really not that upset about the A-.
  • I am loving my job right now.  Working in the library is awesome, because no one is here.  At most hours, I’m pretty sure the staff outnumber the patrons.  I wish it was always like this.  I’m working days right now, since we’re not open late.  I prefer my normal swing shift, because it makes it so much easier to get stuff done, but it’s nice not to miss all the good tv for once.  I know I’m way late to this party, but I finally watched Hoarders.  Now I’m hooked.
  • I’ve also been training for my new second job.  I’m nervous about it still, but I think I’m really going to like it.  I’ve always wanted to be an editor and now I am.
  • The hardest thing right now is saying no to other good opportunities.  I feel like awesome things keep coming up that I really want to be a part of, but I have to remind myself that I have entirely too much on my plate already.  It’s not the overachiever in me–it’s the girl interested in a lot of different things.  Does anyone else–does everyone else–feel like blogging has opened all these doors of interest to them?
  • Yesterday, I got the best news ever.  Let me first say, if a genie gave me three wishes, it’s a big possibility that one of them would be, “Bring back The Show with Ze Frank.”  Since that’s not a reality, I depend on the Vlog Brothers to get me through.  Well, the Vlog Brothers are hosting a conference with other YouTubers here in CA this summer.  I was already considering attending.  Only the $80 registration fee and my very tight get-out-of-debt budget was stopping me.  But, then yesterday, it was announced that Ze Frank will be there.  Ze Frank!  I’m now unable to resist.
  • Last weekend I met Herding Cats for Mexican food.  We made plans to meet after my Making It Happen post and then we, um, made it happen!  Meeting bloggers is awesome.
  • Over mid-morning margaritas,  Herding Cats asked me if I’d seen Adorable Boy lately.  I’m not sure how accurate this is, but I remember saying something like, “No!  I haven’t seen him in weeks.  But, it’s okay, I’ve given up on him.  Nothing is going to happen.  No, there’s nothing there.  Nothing will happen.  It’s okay, because nothing is going to happen.  It’s just fun to have a crush, you know? Nothing will happen.”  I guess I was overcompensating for how stupid I sound by sounding even stupider.  I’m 12.  Anyway, I haven’t seen him in weeks!  And, nothing will happen.
  • I haven’t campaigned for myself.  I didn’t last year either.  I guess it makes me uncomfortable.  But, thank you to anyone who helped make me a 20sb Bootlegger Finalist for Best Vlogger.  And thanks again for making me Featured Blogger.  It’s been an interesting month.  If you’re new around here, I’m sorry if it’s taking me an embarrassingly long time to get back to you.  The real rockstars of the blogosphere are those people who read everything and leave thoughtful comments everywhere.  I don’t know how they do it.  Yesterday’s post was my 400th and I still haven’t figured it all out.

Have a great weekend!

Congrats on your grades…especially given you were working a full time and a part time job! You must be superwoman! And you work in a library…I did that through uni as well…except, I was a shelver. I loved the evening shifts because there were fewer students and holidays were great for the quiet but not so much for me in terms of shifts. Enjoy the peace while it lasts! :D

Yes, congrats on those lovely grades! You deserve them. I would love to work a day shift in a library. That sounds amazing.

I haven’t seen Hoarders. I wish I had cable. lolz.

I really want to go to VidCon. My husband isn’t really that keen on me spending all that money (it will roughly cost me $800 with the cost of flight and hotel, not including food) but I’m going to keep considering it. It looks like it’s going to be so fun, and I really don’t want to miss out on the first ever VidCon (there are sure to me so many to follow).

Happy Friday!

I certainly know what you mean about having too many opportunities. I really want to join the 20SB admin team but I know that I have so much going on in my life already that I probably won’t have nearly as much time as I think. It’s such a bummer to turn down good opportunities. Hopefully the opportunities will come back someday. :)

Congrats on your grades, Miss Smart Cookie! :)

And I wish I worked in a library too – it sounds like it’d be just heavenly!

Congrats on your grades! You could put away $10 a month until then so it won’t hurt your bank account as much as taking out an $80 chunk at once (at least that’s what I do).

Congrats on your grades! You deserve to spend $80 and go see that guy (not sure who he is, but I’m not big on YouTube).

Congrats on your grades! You’re juggling so much successfully right now.

Umm, yes blogging has been opening all kinds of doors and opportunities right now..it’s so hard to say no, so I keep saying yes…OOPS. Guess I’ll be a busy girl.

What kind of editing job will you be doing?

Sometimes writing is hard and I stare at a blank screen entirely way too long. Blogging has opened so many interesting opportunities for me as well as made me realize what it is I want to do and given me so many new things to think about. I have always enjoyed college campuses and would love to go to another one to work.

I’m glad you’re getting a chance to enjoy some calm – you always sound so busy it makes ME feel tired. :) And those grades are awesome. I would have KILLED for more A grades when I was in education.

PS You got my vote for the Vlogger award. Good luck! :)

When I laugh at the paragraph about Adorable Boy, I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing with you, because of the way that paragraph is written, not necessarily the circumstance.

…You’re laughing, right? Nervous laugh? Bueller?

You must be one motivated girl who does not sleep. I only worked a part-time job in college, and my grades still weren’t as good as yours! Congrats, and stop beating yourself up!

I’m also a girl who’s into a little bit of everything, which is why I started blogging — it was a thing I wanted to be into. :)

I still haven’t figured out how all those bloggers have so much time to draft insightful posts, leave thoughtful comments and respond to all their commenters. Plus work jobs, raise children, take care of homes and husbands, go to school and run an Etsy shop. I’m clueless!

congrats on everything. Even the straight As! (even w/ an A-, it’s still straight As to me :P )

Hey there, visiting your blog for the first time, but I love it! Keep up the good work, and congrats on those grades. What kind of editing will you be doing?

Congratulations on your grades! What an accomplishment!

And I’m kind of jealous that you work in a library. I went to the law school library with the boy this afternoon to print out some documents and fell in love with libraries all over again. The smell of books… just fabulous. And you get to experience that every day. (I know there’s more to your job than that, but still. It’s awesome.)

And congrats, again! You totally deserved BOTH nods because you are one of those blogging rockstars!

It is awesome/surreal meeting bloggers…my first time doing this was visiting England and staying WITH a blog friend. What a great experience!!

I also adore college campuses :) The architecture used on colleges reminds me of places far far away that I love–England, Ireland, Spain…you name it!

If I do half as well as you when I’m back to school – I have been out for almost four years – I’ll be thrilled! Ha. Congrats on the awesome grades!

Sometimes I picture the day when we meet each other in my head. We’re both wearing our iPods listening to Blue October (who I just bought tickets for in APRIL!) and we run toward each other in slow motion. We then gossip like little school girls. Then, I meet Lisa, and we go see New Moon again for the 10th time.

I know, vivid imagination.
