Southern California does a lot of things well. Fall is just not one of them. Living here, there’s a lot about Washington that I miss, but this is probably my only deal breaker when it comes to making California my permanent home.
I tried to convince myself that Fall is a state of mind. And, hey, I kind of even believe that, but I do not have the focus to convince myself it’s Fall when it’s 100 degrees outside and I’m sweating like it’s July.
When I was in fifth grade, my class spent a week at a camp and around the campfire on our last night we did a snow dance. Sure enough, we woke up to snow the next morning. I’m wondering if there’s some kind of dance I can do to bring Fall to California. I mean, it won’t be like it is in Washington, but if it just dipped down into the low 70s, I think I could eat some candy corn and convince myself it was just like the real thing.

That must be so strange not having Fall. Here in England the leaves are starting to turn and it’s getting much colder – I wish it was warm like California!!
I don’t know what I’d do without fall. As much as I hate when temperatures dip anywhere below the 60′s, I don’t know how well I’d do in a place that never really had a change of seasons.
Maybe with Halloween/Thanksgiving on their way, it’ll feel more like fall :)!
Know what helps? Cinnamon/pumpkin-scented candles. And those light-weight summer scarves that you can pretend are fall scarves!
Fall is, by far, my favorite season. I’ve always dreamed of living in SoCal or somewhere warm, but I imagine I’d horribly miss the fun of autumn. Make use Sophia’s ideas. Perhaps they’ll at least put you in a fall state of mind…
When I lived in Florida, fall was practically nonexistant. I mean, the leaves were green … Then they were brown. In Tennessee, though, leaves are green, yellow, red, orange, brown. If I ever had to move away, a beautiful fall would be in my top priorities.
I’m not exactly sure how the weather is in California, but hopefully, it will cool soon. Eat pumpkin pie, drink apple cider. I’ll send you a red leaf. (Would it turn brown before it arrived?)
While I always say that I could live without winter (I seriously could) I dont think I could make do without the other three seasons. Which is why I’m not sure I could ever live in California. The smell of wood smoke, the feel of the crisp night air as you pull a fleece a little tighter around you and step closer to the bonfire, the drinking scent of apple butter in the air as my grandpap makes it. I wouldn’t trade these days here for anything.
Yeah you definitely don’t get the full effect of the seasons, especially fall, in California. I guess because I grew up there I’ve been made immune. That said, when you’ve got pretty nice weather while the rest of us are freezing and cold, you’ll be very very happy that you’re where you’re at. But I’ll try my best to enjoy the quasi-fall we’ve got here especially for you, haha.
I’ve only lived in Illinois so I’m used to a small Fall time frame. It usually stays brisk for about 1 month and then is freezing. I love candy corn though.
Give it another month, and it will be chilly. And by chilly, I mean 70 degrees. And while I do love sunshine, I’m excited for pumpkin spice latte weather. It will happen eventually.
That really wouldn’t do for me. My favourite bit of the year is the late part of autumn, and the part of winter that comes before the new year. And living in the north of England, you really feel it. I have some distant relatives in Australia, and they have Christmas barbecues on the beach and stuff; it just feels wrong.
Lol, personally I’m freaking out because here in Texas, I can tell Fall is coming…and I’m already starting to get chilly!
Fall, or as I call it Autumn, is definitely my favorite season. I love the crisp weather and the turning of the leaves. Where I live it’s about the closest you’ll get to a perfect temperature.
If I were you, I’d definitely be grabbing some candy corn and doing a Fall dance. One because Fall is wonderful. Second because who doesn’t love candy corn?
i put on a tshirt and jeans and a huge hooded sweater today, because my brain thinks it’s fall. cozy, pretty fall colored clothes. sigh.
i went outside and it was 100 degrees.
no bueno, tennessee. not okay.
i totally get it.
Canada doesn’t have a lot of plus sides (aka, the winter, ummm, sucks ass), but fall is one of the things we do best!
My aunt lives in Cali and she is originally from the east coast. She says the one thing that she will never get used to despite having lived there for 30 years is the fact that there is no fall. I love fall, I would never be able to adjust. Although when it is freezing cold here and I am whining about the snow, I will be quite jealous of your perfect, sunny weather.
Lately they’ve come up with a bunch of new ‘gourmet’ flavors of candy corn, in fancy packages and of course more expensive. Don’t fall (oops) for it, especially that ‘creme brulee’ candy corn, it’s horrible.
