Save a Tree. Read a blog.

by Ashley on August 24, 2009

I had to write a quick post, because I promised my friend Elyse that I would use this title. She came up with it when she was telling me that instead of reading the newspaper on her breaks from work, she reads my blog! I knew she knew about my blog, but I didn’t know she read it regularly. Friendships shouldn’t come with required reading, but it’s nice to know my two friends who know about this blog actually do read it.

Elyse and I met for coffee on Friday. We’re still just like the kids who met on the playground in Elementary School, except that we drink coffee and alcohol now. We spent our time together catching up on the questions we knew our parents would ask us about each other later. I came home to a lot of, What is Elyse up to? Is she a licensed pharmacist yet? Is she going to stay here in Washington? It’s not that we don’t care about the answers to these questions too, but we more often get distracted with things like planning Elyse’s imaginary wedding to be held on Thursday. My favorite part is that girls are wearing wizard hats and the boys top hats. Klassy.

After meeting Elyse, I did a quick drive by of my undergrad since I was already on that side of town. I miss those beautiful brick buildings. It’s really a campus designed to be photographed in the Fall. I wish I could see it then. I would love to teach there one day.

Yesterday we made the cross-state drive to Spokane. This is where my parents grew up, so all of my extended family is here. Yesterday it was drinks with my dad and siblings, then dinner with grandma, then drinks with my dad and brother. Today it’s lunch with my cousin and great aunt and then martini night with all of my dad’s sisters. I don’t consider my family to be big on drinking, but our activities suggest otherwise. Expect more of my this is what I’m drinking now tweets.

Tomorrow we head back to Tacoma and then I’m back to California early the next morning. Straight to work and back to reality. I’m not ready yet, but when am I ever? No choice but to jump into the deep end.

Doesn’t it feel good when people you love in real life read your blog, and not just people you’ve met on the internet? I love my blogging friends, I really do! But there’s something to be said for someone you know taking an interest in what you do.

I’m glad that you know I’m still reading even though I haven’t commented in forever.

Martini night sounds fabulous.

I’m shocked. Haha.

Enjoy the rest of your time in Washington!

my parents do the same thing after I see a friend that I might not have seen in awhile! haha. but it is always great catching up, and likewise finding out that a friend actually reads your blog every so often. that recently happened to me, and I was a bit shocked! :)

hope you enjoy the rest of your time visiting (and drinking! haha, no shame) with your family!

The only bad thing about going home is leaving – for most of us anyway. It’s easy to miss those places you grew up, but it’s not until you’re actually there that the thought of returning to your everyday life somewhere else really makes you miss the home surroundings.

haha, I’m so bad at asking my friends the questions that my mom will ask me later! This totally happened yesterday. “So what kind of job is ___’s husband looking for?” “Um, we didn’t talk about that.”

I think blog are kind of the new newspapers and magazines, even if it is just the opinions column!

None of my offline friends know about my blog, my husband does but he never reads it. I’m kind of nervous for some reason to tell anyone about it who know me personally. Not really sure why.
