I wrote before about how I have awesome parents. It’s not that I ever forget that fact, it’s just that sometimes I get special reminders. I booked my ticket home to Washington this week. I forwarded my mom and dad the itinerary, and I immediately got an email back from my dad saying this was great news and a voice mail from my mom that afternoon saying she was so happy I was coming.
I finally got a chance to talk to my mom last night and I can hardly remember what we even talked about, but she just made me feel so special and loved. Sometimes it’s even the simplest things like asking me what meals I want to eat when I’m home.
I was once accused of only being a liberal because I’m guilty for the privilege I have. It’s not true and it was said by someone who should have known me much better than that, but sometimes I am amazed that I was lucky enough to get such awesome parents. I mean, my mom and step-dad freaking write me letters. Like, pen and paper and stamps. And not just once in a while, but on a regular basis. The few pictured above are only from the last month or so. Who does that?
It’s not like things in my family are perfect, but I’m grateful always to be part of it.

I suggest our next 20SW prompt will be physically writing a letter to someone else from the group, mail it and then scan/post it 2 weeks later when we all received it.
Best idea. Ever.
Agreed.
Such a great idea!
That’s awesome that they do that!
and.. Phampants: That’s a great idea! I like it!
Aw this is so sweet! :) Yes, families aren’t always perfect. But I can’t say I wouldn’t want to be a part of mine.
That’s so awesome that they write you letters! Sometimes just getting a letter in the mail is just the thing to cheer you up.
That’s adorable! My mom gave me letters when I was in Rome and I had to open them each on Thursdays.
That is so cute! I love getting mail, especially from my mom. :)
I realize how lucky I am, as well. Especially because my dad had surgery this past week. Whenever someone goes through surgery, I’m always forced to think about the possibility of death and what my life would be like without them. So thankful my dad is still here! (especially after cancer three years ago!)
I think its awesome that they write you letters! Its like a lost art. You are very luck to have such great parents. I’m glad that you’re going home for a visit.
Getting letters is one of my favorite things. What awesome parents you have.
that is amazing! people seriously do not write letters as much as they should. but I think the “older” generation still gets it. there’s nothing better than getting a handwritten note in the mailbox. but I will settle for an email too. it’s always nice when I see an email from my dad in my inbox, telling me a funny joke or sharing a news story with me.
I writer letters to my boyfriend right now, with him being in Iraq. Yes, I talk to him online almost everyday, but I still write him letters. he says it feels so good to get things in the mail, it’s comforting and he feels less far away.
That is so awesome. My parents don’t write letters, but my mom occasionally sent cards if she knew I was having a particularly tough week or if Arbor Day was nearing. I liked those little reminders. I might miss them when she lives down the street again.
Letters are so great! They’re so much more personal than an e-mail or text (though those are appreciated, too).
