I Hear It's The Darkest Yet

by Ashley on July 15, 2009

I’m talking about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, of course.   It comes out today!  And, every time the actors are interviewed, they say that the new movie is much darker than those previous.  I won’t be seeing the movie until Saturday, because I’m old and I work very early in the morning.

There haven’t been many reasons to write about Harry since I started blogging, but you should know that we’re in a long-term relationship that began when I was a senior in high school.  I’d been given The Sorcerer’s Stone that Christmas, but it took me a few months to get around to reading it.

I had this really distinct feeling when I first started reading about young Harry Potter.  For all the reading I’d done, I’d never felt that way before.  Or since.  I thought, “I could have written this.”  I wasn’t thinking that I could have written something like it, but that the world of Harry Potter could have come from my head.

I realize now, of course, that I am not nearly clever enough to have invented any of it.  I must have been crazy to think that.  But, J.K. Rowling inspired me to work on my own fiction.  I’d been writing for years, but I’d never taken any of it seriously.  Reading Harry Potter made me wish that people would one day read about my characters too.

Every movie release is like an event!  And it’s been too long since the last.  I’d post a picture from two years ago where I’m wearing a scarf in the colors of Gryffindor even though it was about a million degrees outside, while Lisa is wearing a Ron t-shirt and holding a wand, but that would be just too embarrassing for the both of us.  We got pretty decked out to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.   You understand.

I’ve never been a big Ginny and Harry fan, so I’m most looking forward to Quidditch!

I never got around to reading any of the books and I’ve only seen bits from one of the movies, and I’m not even sure which one that was. I feel like I’m missing out!

We’re also going to see the 8:30 show on Saturday. I am *so* excited. I watched the first movie and then only read the books and I’ve loved them ever since. It’s silly…but when I finished the books there was this gaping hole left. I didn’t know what else to read that would take me so completely away. It was fantastic. :)

Luckily we have a couple of movies to go.

Harry Potter FTW!

I’ve read all the books but I’m not getting to see the movie this week because I’m in a wedding. Reprot back how it is!

I love that you guys dressed up last time!! It’s so great how books THAT wholesome became such a phenom. I need to re-read the book before I see the movie, it’s been too long.

I work at a movie theatre. Let me tell you, last night was crazy. It will only get worse over the next few weeks. Six screens sold out . There where so many people in the lobby, we couldn’t tell who was in line for the concession stand. It’s crazy, I tell ya, crazy!

Haha, though ol’ Harry isn’t my cup of tea I’m glad you enjoy it so much and that it had such an effect on you! I’m definitely enjoying seeing everyone get all excited about the movie coming out; things like that are always fun. Not just things that mean a lot to you, but getting really excited about something being released. Though I don’t feel that way about Harry Potter, I’ve felt that same way about other things, so I know how cool it is. I hope the movie is good and you enjoy it!

I’m going to see it tomorrow! It’s the one thing I really wanted for my birthday, and I think my boyfriend took the hint. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a freaking movie!

I love love love love Harry Potter, but like you have to wait until the weekend to see it because I am also old and work early in the morning. I didn’t start in on the Harry Potter mania until P.O.A came out in theatres. I had never seen a Harry Potter movie or read any of the books and my BF and his family were obsessed. I went to the movie thinking that I was too old for it (21) and left basically crying at the sheer awesomeness.

i cannot WAIT to see it. i’m seeing it tonight and am so excited! i’ve been to the opening day/night of every movie that’s come out (even once where i went straight from running a 10K to the theater!), but i have to admit that i’ve never worked up the nerve to rock the right gear. maybe tonight i’ll try to wear something in gryffindor colors?

the books are amazing. i remember in high school i used to think, “wow, now if i only did magic, being at boarding school would be just like being at hogwarts!” lol.

I saw the title of this and thought “OMG she’s writing about Harry Potter!”. Then I clicked, and I wasn’t disappointed! I’m not seeing it until Saturday either, with my sisters.

I’ve noticed that all the movies have progressively gotten darker as they came along, but that’s because the books do. The books are AMAZING, I just finished reading them this month, like two weeks ago. :]

I have to admit that I’m a Harry and Ginny fan. I wasn’t at first, but I couldn’t stand Cho Chang in the books and I prefer Ginny over her any day. Ginny is so down-to-earth and smart, and Harry really needs that.

Its AWESOME! You will love it – and after you see it.. we will talk ;)

BUT a few thoughts..

Its not THAT dark,
it actually has quite a few funny moments,
I love Ginny & Harry.. and Ron & Hermione..

and.. I feel Malfoy’s issues tug at my heartstrings.. ;) haha.

Yay Harry!

I’m am stoked for the new movie! I will be seeing it Friday night with my best friend. We have read the books and seen each movie together. I actually hope the movie is dark. I’ve quite enjoyed the darker ones. Life is not all rainbows and unicorns.

I would have loved to gone to the premier but with classes and work I couldn’t. Does that make me old as well?

I had the first three books FOR A YEAR before I started reading them. i just didn’t think they would be for me… oh what a foolish lass I was. Now I’m at a point where I get advanced tickets to go to the midnight showing and wait in line for an hour and a half with 14 year olds who insist on wearing sunglasses indoors, just so I can get a good seat. Oy. And after watching the new one last night, I have to say, the quidditch was one of my favourite parts too!

We couldn’t get tickets until TOMORROW night but I am so, so excited!! Those books amaze me, I can’t even imagine being creative enough to come up with that storyline!! J.K. Rowling is inspiring to writers everywhere I think!

I really, really love HP, even though I boycotted it until last summer. I caught up within two months of reading the first book, so that was a good thing, and I am SO excited about this movie for the same reasons you are. Here’s to hoping it is as good as we hope!

I’ve been trying to remember when I started reading. The first 2 were already out, I know that much. I keep thinking 2001, after my first year in college but that’s when the movie came out and that can’t be right. stupid memory.

Lol I was always a Hermione and Harry fan. But that’s just me.

P.S. I saw it today and did a review on my blog, if you’re curious. It’s spoiler-free, so you won’t ruin it for yourself!

I can’t wait to see it! I’m not sure when I’m going to see it…I’m too jet lagged now to sit in a dark room hahaha.

It was a good movie

I too, have a gryffindor scarf! I knitted it a few years ago. I toyed with the idea of wearing it yesterday, but it’s about 103 degrees here

I’ve actually never ready the books, though I’ve seen the first few movies. I’d like to read the books, however, to get a better feel for the story.
