Hey Friday. I’ve been waiting for you.
- I didn’t invent Post-its. The title is a nod to Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, which is a movie I love and was recently reminded of (thanks to Filmspotting). That’s one I need for my collection.
- I warned you that when I got cable (for the first time in 7 years!) that I might disappear off the face of the blogging world for a while. You thought I was joking. I thought I was joking. But, it’s true. That’s where I’ve been since Tuesday: watching TV. Not really, of course. I’ve been working and all that normal stuff, but for some reason I haven’t been blogging. I’ve written several posts to about the 3/4 length, but they always get more tedious and serious than I intended or am in the mood for, so I abandon them.
- Speaking of cable, it is so awesome! Yeah, there’s a lot of crap, but can I tell you how much I love HGTV? And watching Countdown when it actually airs. I forgot how much I love Forensic Files, though I wish it wasn’t on right before I go to bed. In other TV news, I’ve been watching my DVDs of The Big Bang Theory, and I forgot how much I love that show. I didn’t see any of season 2, since it was on when I was working and CBS doesn’t put it online. I’m looking forward to when it’s released to DVD. Oh, and who’s watching Big Brother with me this summer? Yeah, it’s kind of trashy, but I always get sucked in.
- I like working and I like my job, but I had a total case of the Mondays this week and things haven’t improved since then. I usually don’t think anything about getting up every morning and spending my whole day pushing books around, but this week I’ve been staring at the clock a lot and counting down the minutes. Like, right now, it’s 4:12 pm on Thursday and I cannot wait until I get off at 5:15.
- I was so excited this week, because my favorite Fanilow Mandy had a contest and I won. Me! I did. I know I sound like a big walking, makeup wearing cliche when I say this, but I never win anything. This is awesome.
- I’m still enjoying the new apartment so much. One night I had dream after dream about having to move again, but then there was something wrong with every new place and then I was attacked by a giant butterfly (I’m scared of butterflies) that turned out to be a peacock. I was so relieved to wake up in my nice and bug-free apartment. It’s weird, but I find that just being in a new space has thrown off some of my old habits. That’s what I like about new spaces.
- It’s been nice to have a break from my novel. I actually wrote the first few sentences of my next novel this week, and while they’re not good and will have to be rewritten, it was nice just to take that step. The protagonist is a male this time, and I freaked out for a second thinking that I don’t know anything about guys, but then I realized that I don’t know anything about girls either and that hasn’t stopped me before.
- Of course it wouldn’t be a normal week if I didn’t make an idiot of myself with a certain Adorable Boy. Or maybe I haven’t made a bit enough idiot of myself and that’s the problem.
- I haven’t bought any makeup or nail polish in the last two weeks. I haven’t even been tempted to accidentally drive miles out of my way to stop at Ulta. This is progress, though I worry about Ulta staying in business without me.
- I have to confess that I’m a little jealous of you bloggers out there who are traveling this summer, especially those of you who’ve had the opportunity to meet each other. My lack of disposable income and vacation time is keeping me here in California. I guess there are worse places to spend a summer, but I hope to meet you all eventually!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Weirdly enough, there was a point when I had TWO dvd copies of “Romy and Michelle”. I ended up giving one away. I LOVE that film so hard though!
Perhaps the case of the Mondays could have to do with wanting to get home to watch tv? ;)
I wish I could travel some this summer, too! Alas, I have a lack of vacation days and funds.
I don’t think I could survive without cable. I mean, I obviously could, but I would be dying a little on the inside.
I’m coming to California.
I was so excited when I saw the title of your post because I LOVE Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. Best birthday gift from a friend ever! Thanks for the shout out! I am still working on getting things together for your box, which reminds me. Odd question I know, but what size shoe do you wear because naturally, a box of favorite summer things must include flip flops! I am hoping to get it sent out early next week and I am very excited to send it!
Well you could always mail yourself to NYC. It’s cheaper. Just remember an oxygen tank & some food. =)
We’ll meet one day soon
I know I’ve said this before, and I think you have too, but it really does seem like the bloggers I know are taking vacation/blog breaks during the summer. But for those of us in the academic/school world, it’s probably not a bad idea to take a little break. I just hope you don’t get too overwhelmed by your new cable TV.
Good luck on novel #2! And I’ve thought the same thing about girls/women (that I don’t know how they think) and I’m pretty sure it’s caused me to never try to write… anything really. And I’m sure I’ll pass through southern California one of these days. So maybe you can stalk… errr keep tabs on me and find me in a coffee shop, haha.
You can come hang out in Berkeley with me. It’s not that far! Woohooo Claremont pride!
I’m watching big brother this summer too! I don’t have a favorite yet, but the fabolous gay man is certainly in the running! Oh and the video gamer. I like his dorkiness too.
I love Ulta!! My biggest money pit is Bare Minerals makeup. I cannot get enough!
I did the same thing when I got cable. It definitely will suck you in. I’m watching The Bachelorette and 16 and Pregnant pretty regularly.
I really hate that CBS doesn’t put Big Bang Theory online, because it’s one of my favorite shows and I don’t have cable. :/
In DC, we do all of our meeting new people within blocks of our houses and apartments. That makes it really easy. I wish I could travel, too, especially to some of the blogger meetups.
Me, me, me! I’m watching Big Brother with you!
Brains all the way!
But you’re in CALIFORNIA. At least you’re in a remotely desirable location, a place where a stay-cation might actually mean something!
Also, I hate post-its right now. Seriously, I want to kill its inventor. But I still love Romy and Michelle. God I haven’t seen that movie in a long time, maybe I should rent it this weekend…
Romy and Michelle is one of my very favorite movies. What a classic!
Like you, I wish I was able to travel more. Though I made the trek to Vegas, I wish I had more time and money to travel to see more blog friends. And to come to California because I’ve never been there before.
I hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!
I would kill to come visit you in California! I could spend my whole life doing blogger meetups, I think.
I am living without cable for the first time in a while, and life is just not the same. Glad you have found happiness through the TV, even if it means you disappear from the blog world.
I just saw The Big Bang Theory for the first time last week. Not too shabby, I must say. I’m somewhat interested now.
And I have yet to meet any bloggers either. =( Hopefully some day we can join everyone. ::Fingers crossed::
P.S. I’m glad to hear someone else is a bit afraid of butterflies. I most certainly am.
