It’s Friday and Only One Week Remains

by Ashley on May 8, 2009

I’ve always loved Fridays, but lately I am just crazy about them.

  • Even though we all link to things very diligently, I think that most of us realize that no one ever clicks on those links. I know this not just because of my stats or because other bloggers have said so, but because I almost never click on links. But, when I posted about that $18 nail polish last week, everyone clicked to see it.
  • Ahh, I get to see my family soon! And, you know, I’m actually kind of nervous about it, because they’re coming to visit me. They’re descending on California from both North and South, and I don’t like being the center of attention. But, I wanted them to be at my graduation. I told them it was important to me, which is something I don’t say very often. And so they’re coming!
  • I know I’ve talked about my family before, but I should just mention that even though my parents had a terrible divorce (20 years ago), they’re now very friendly, so my my mom, dad, step-dad, and sister are all flying down together and my mom booked hotel rooms for them all and my dad got the rental car. My dad and step-dad call each other husbands-in-law. We’ve got drama like every other family, but I’m really grateful that I can invite them all to important things like this and I don’t have to worry about them fighting or anything. Not all children of divorce are lucky like that, I know.
  • I’ve just arranged to work for one of my professors this summer. I am never not surprised when they give me these opportunities. It’s not that I think I’m an idiot. It’s that they give me really challenging tasks that make it hard to feel like I’m ever doing a great job.
  • I am really into politics again. I have been since the lead up to the election, but in the last few weeks, I’m just all about it like I was in the Fall. I’m finding myself wanting to talk about it, but I don’t have many outlets for that now and when I do talk to people, I find myself dominating the conversation, because I know a lot more about what’s going on than they do.
  • The thing about working in an academic library is that everyone finishes with their books at once and then we are flooded with the returns. That wave came in yesterday. Oh my gosh, there are books everywhere. Sometimes when I tell people I work in a library, they say something to me about loving books, but when you work with books, sometimes you hate them. They’re big and heavy and dusty and sometimes have complicated call numbers, but mostly they are just everywhere. I’m probably going to have a nightmare tonight about being smothered to death by books.
  • I feel compelled to read the Twilight books again (minus Breaking Dawn). It’s been a year since I read them the first time. But, I’m not sure if I’ll get swept up again. The first time I read them, I felt like I was under some kind of spell, but then months later I tried to read the Midnight Sun leaked chapters, and I had no interest even though I’m like so totally in love with Edward Cullen and will be 4ever.
  • It’s weird being around people working on finals when you’re not.

Have a great weekend everyone. (I want you to know that even though I say that to everyone, I really mean it when I say it to you.)

I’m one of those lucky children-of-divorce too :) And I think I want to read the Harry Potter books again.

That sounds like the situation with my mom and dad (they got divorced when I was super young too), and it definitely makes life easier but it’s also good that you realize that you’re lucky in that regard. And just look at it the way I do- I just get more family!

I think we’re both thinking/feeling the same way about politics, maybe you need to come out to DC and do the blogging thing about stuff here. It’s a pretty cool place, haha.

You’re on to something. Now I need to figure out how to get people to click on links.

Haha, your Friday bullet posts always make me smile, and sometimes crack up even!

I thought of you while I did a very poor job of painting my toes this morning! I am so not savvy when it comes to nail painting!

It’s so great that your whole family is going to your graduation. It’s such a big accomplishment and I’m sure they’re all very proud of you.

Can I just say that I loved this post? Heck yes, I can. It’s my body, I’ll do what I want. Ha.

I’m excited that you’re graduated. Take lots of pictures. Yes, I do mean during the ceremony. I want you to have your digital camera in hand and snapping pictures. Especially when people are snapping your picture getting your diploma, I want you snapping back. Got it?

Okay, so you can’t do that. BUT your “Picture of the Day” BETTER be of you in your cap & gown.

I painted my nails “watermelon” today. I look like a girl. It’s crazy.

I haven’t heard of the Midnight Sun series… I may have to look into that one.

I think it’s incredible that your dad and step-dad (and your dad and mom) get along. I would love if my parents got to the point where they were nice/friendly to each other, but I think that’s asking too much. My mother is still hurting over it (and dwells on everything bad things my father does) while he just doesn’t care. C’est la vie.

I recently re-read the Twilight series and loved it. I need to find a new series to become addicted to…

I’m still working on Twilight. It’s a slow go. But it’s not half as bad as I thought it would be…

My parents divorced when I was a wee tot. And they still don’t get along. My graduation was spent trying to keep a cat fight from breaking out. I was very discouraged that they couldn’t get along for ONE DAY, a day that was entirely about me. Sigh. All well.
