Okay, Now It’s Friday

by Ashley on May 1, 2009

Lies! It’s still Thursday here on the West Coast. It’s 11:29 pm, and I have 31 minutes until my weekend begins. If you’re wondering why I posted a Friday post on Thursday, it’s because I wasn’t thinking when I scheduled the post.

I don’t have anything prepared to say, which probably means I should just forgo writing, but that doesn’t usually stop me.

There is still no internet in my apartment and a tiny part of me is starting to like it. It’s the part of me who finally figured out that watching You Tube videos on an iPhone isn’t so bad and if I just bring my laptop to work, I can download Countdown with Keith Olbermann (podcast version) and watch that when I get home. I need my fix of political commentary before going to bed.

Is it me or does Michelle Bachman grow crazier by the day? Doesn’t she have a staff to check her facts? I understand mistakes when you’re speaking without preparation, but when you’re on the floor of the House? I hope she says smart things too and the liberal media only focuses on the ridiculous things she says. You have to figure there was some reason she was elected.

I was reading a message board today and someone said something about water boarding, and 15 people asked what that was. It really shocked me. I don’t usually rant about the ill informed. I didn’t know what water boarding was until it came out that we were using it to torture people. But, I was really surprised that so few people knew considering the memos that were released and everything.

It’s 11:44 pm now.

I’m working on this research assignment for one of my professors. It feels a little over my head, but nearly all research tasks do at first. Grad school has challenged me in so many ways. When people ask, I don’t go on and on about how hard it is and ZOMG there’s so much work! That’s because I’m now capable of doing work I had no idea I could do and finishing assignments faster that I could imagine. I do get tired of being pushed all the time. It really got to me my first year. But, it’s amazing what a little pushing can do. That’s why I think it’s so important for people to do things that challenge them.

11:48 pm

I’ve been watching episodes of Arrested Development again. I’m really curious about the movie they’re working on. It’s hard to imagine the show as a movie, but it’s also hard to imagine that group doing anything that isn’t awesome.

11:49 pm

Wow, I wrote that last paragraph quickly.

11:52 pm

I went back to reread what I’d already written and proof it. I notice that when I read my old posts, I find a lot of typos. I’d like to think my newer posts have fewer, but I probably don’t have enough distance from them yet to see the mistakes. It was so hard to proofread my thesis, because it was so freaking long and I could not see my mistakes at all. My mom and dad both want to read it, and I have to admit that I will be really embarrassed if they find a bunch of typos. They’re both perfectionists in that way, and I guess that’s how I want them to see me too.

11:54 pm

I really want this nail polish, but it’s $18 a bottle. No can do.

11:56 pm

The header for my blog is missing. I upgraded my blog theme and accidentally deleted my custom header. Whoops. I need to figure out how to get it back.

11:57 pm

I don’t have an plans this weekend. What are you up to?

11:58 pm

Okay, time to shut down my computer. Thanks for spending some time with me! TGIF!

$18 for nail polish?! Seriously? And don’t hate me, but I don’t know what water boarding is… I really try to avoid all things politics though. Forgive me? As for my weekend.. no plans yet. I have a couple books that a friend lent to me, so I’ll probably just read and relax. Next week begins my finals weeks, so relaxing sounds nice. Happy TGIF!

If I had an extra 20 bucks, I’d totally buy it for you, as a token of the respect I have for you. Ha, that sounds so lame. Nail polish = respect. But really? 18 dollar nail polish should most certainly equal respect!

Happy Friday finally! That is a beautiful polish color — I think I might’ve seen a similar one at Urban Outfitters for more like $3??? Anyway, this weekend I’m going to a wedding! In Houston!

My mom is a perfectionist too. Whenever I had big research papers due I would have her read it, just to get some fresh eyes on it. I think you should let them read it, it might help.

$18 for nail polish!! I would totally buy it though.

I hope you can get your header back, I really liked it.

Well, I’m going to a crawfish boil on Sat, and finishing up the deck on Sunday. Hello beautiful weather!!

Have a great weekend!

for that price, the polish better never chip and only come off with liberal amounts of remover. i’m talking 5 minutes of soaking. i want it to stick like glue, and it better f-in sparkle in the sun! perhaps it could change colours? (oh, and re. sophia: i bought some urban outfitter nail polish in a few colours – i believe the brand is L.A. Girl (Flare) – and it was goopy. it didn’t spread nicely and streaked and then when i was trying a second coat, it completely just took itself off on the little brush. i say go for Essie brand. really bright colours, and the paint is smooth)

either way, this weekend, i’m hoping the weather stays not-raining and above 60º so me and the boy can go to the bronx zoo. if that doesn’t work though, i’m not sure what we’ll do. maybe go back to the brooklyn flea market, finish watching the planet earth series, do some spring cleaning, perhaps i could get my hair done (it’s only been a year, ha), catch up on some lego video games, do some puzzles…bake some cookies? nah, jillian michael’s would crawl out of my computer screen and kill me if she knew i was doing that while i was trying to keep up with her video…

Is the nail polish made up of diamonds? Could you, literally, be painting your nails with DIAMONDS?!?!?! [/Arrested Development]

I hope your internet problems get cleared up soon, and I’ll have to check out the Keith Olbermann podcast, though I usually just watch the clips at MSNBC.com. Also, Michelle Bachman is very scary, in that it’s scary that someone could actually think the way she does.

I’ll tell Washington D.C. you say hi, because that’s where I’ll be, trying to get some writing done.

that was pretty funny yesterday with the “Friday” title because I seriously got confused for a minute. like, I knew it was Thursday but for just a second I second-guessed myself :)

I always reread my posts before (and after) I publish them, looking for typos. I am so a perfectionist when it comes to that. I will even reread this comment, I am that much of a nerd. it’s the journalist in me, I guess.

I don’t have anything super fun planned for the weekend. I have to do some interviews tomorrow morning (work never ends) but then the boy and I are celebrating our puppy’s 1 year birthday! yay! :)

happy weekend, whatever you do!

Ashley,

You crack me up!

“11:49 pm: Wow, I wrote that last paragraph quickly.”

I can’t wait for the Arrested Development movie. I have big expectations and I hope they don’t disappointed. Oh it’s such a great show.

Don’t worry, I don’t have any plans at all this weekend. But it’s okay. It’s nice to have a weekend completely free. It opens up to adventure. Or in my case a video…O:-)

` John :-)
