It’s Friday and I Need Some More Fiction in My Life

by Ashley on April 24, 2009

Time for some good old fashioned Friday bullets

  • I finished the first draft of my novel last July and decided that I needed to put it aside so I could concentrate on my thesis. So, I put it away and then about seven months later I actually started working on my thesis. A little over a week ago, I finished my thesis. I don’t have any excuses anymore. I still work a million jobs and I could let that distract me from fiction forever, but I don’t want to let it. I miss working on fiction, and I’m excited to get back to the story. My goal this weekend is to spend at least some time working on the novel and dipping my feet back into those waters.
  • I’ve recently gained a new appreciation for drugstore makeup.
  • I have been eating so so so terribly. I have weird issues with food. I wrote a post about it once, but I never published it because I just couldn’t find the right tone. Quite honestly, it sounded like I had an eating disorder and was in denial about it. But, my food issues are not related to body issues and while they may be psychological, they are not psychological in the same way that anorexia and bulimia are. I’m just a very picky eater, and when I get busy and stressed I become really indifferent to food. None of this really adds up to weight loss for me. It just makes me feel like crap, and right now I’m feeling really apathetic about making a change.
  • All the stuff this week with Miss Musing has just been so weird.  I guess it should make us all a little less trusting of each other, but I really don’t feel that way.  Call me a fool, but I think you’re all genuine.  I did go on this really weird mind trip, though, where I wondered how you could know that I am who I say I am.  I was like, well, there are pictures of me all over my blog. But, pictures don’t prove anything.  Well, I have recorded vlogs where I say the name of my blog. Okay, so the girl in the pictures is the same who owns this blog, but is she the same one writing all the words? Umm . . .  I talk about pretty specific things. And, how do we know you’re telling the truth? Well, if I’m not telling the truth, then I sure makes up some weird stuff. You could be doing that to throw us off.  Okay, I give up.
  • I’m going to have two weeks off at the end of May. I’m so excited that I don’t even know what I’m going to do with myself. Lisa has the same two weeks off, so we’re planning on doing some things, but we’re pretty boring people (no offense, Lisa), so we’ll probably end up drinking and watching tv.
  • I know that C.S. Lewis once said “We read to know we are not alone,” but I think “We blog to know we are not alone.” The longer I blog, the further I go in confessing all the weird things about myself, and just when I think I’m really going to take you by surprise, I find out that I’m not so unique after all, and I mean that in the best possible way. It was such great news to hear that I’m not the only one who worries that she seems too serious or who makes really strange faces.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Maybe in each of our own individual settings we think we’re weird and quirky which drives us to blog, but once we find each other we realize that we’re not so alone after all. There’s some comfort in that.

What’s this Miss Musing scandal? I’m out of the loop :(

I think a trip to Ulta is in the cards for me this weekend! I’ll think of you :)

No offense taken. I’m fully aware that I’m kind of boring. Or maybe it’s just that I like to do slightly boring things. We’re definitely going to the beach though, and that’s not boring!

i didn’t really let miss musing get to me at all. i mean, one person in a blogland of how many?

and it is amazing to see how many people think the same things you do or are at least there when the ‘big’ questions come up. it’s nice to ask those questions and get responses. even if they’re not being seriously asked. i heart blogging.

Ashley, I love your blog. It makes me feel normal, or maybe just that there’s someone just as crazy as me out there ;) haha. Just kidding! Happy Friday!

Yeah my eating habits have seriously gone downhill over the course of my semester. I’m usually so darn tired by the end of the day that I don’t want to cook, and the only things that are open when I get off of work are fast food places. I’ll have to be sure to eat extremely healthily this summer to make up for it. However, I do save money going to Burger King bc I can get a refill on any drink and it’s free! Did you know that?

I have never commented before, but I have been reading for awhile. I think I found you through Amber at Amber Alert. Anyway, thought I should de-lurk myself or whatever you call it :) Especially since I gave you a blog award on my blog today. Just wanted to say I love the honesty (and intellect) of your blog and as a new blogger myself, I totally agree that we blog to know we are not alone. It’s nice to know there are others out there who are like ourselves. or even different from ourselves. so thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!

I’m going to have to agree with you about Miss Musing. While most of us probably feel deceived, I don’t really feel as if I can’t trust the rest of you. I just wish she would have been more honest. There are so many bloggers out there who are just like us. None of us are looking to judge, just to find that wonderful connection.

This past week I found I was indifferent to food, but that was due to stress. I used to be a really picky eater, but I feel as if I’ve changed that. One of the things I tried was to make meals that incorporate what I like and maybe an additional ingredient that I normally wouldn’t. Something very small but effective. A good example might be onions. I used to hate them. Now I don’t mind them and have realized they really take on the flavors you surround them with. Just a small tidbit for you.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

I think I’ve been left out of the loop on the Miss Musing thing…Or maybe I’m just oblivious…Is this the chick who’s been plagiarizing recently? WTF? People really can suck…

Onto Drugstore (and non-drugstore) makeup…I, too, have this LOVE of makeup. I walk into the makeup section at Walgreens (or the front door of Ulta, like I did yesterday), and I’m just excited! All the pretty colors! And the infinite number of possibilities! I wish i could take home one of everything. Yesterday’s trip was much LESS expensive than I thought it would be, thanks to my Ulta coupon and the in-store deals! I got a couple Ulta eye shadows, which I really do love, a new shade of China Glaze nailpolish, and I decided to try out the new covergirl mineral powder and blush. And after watching America’s Next Top Model for the last however many weeks, and watching them rant and rave about the lash blast mascara, had to give it a shot. Oh! And I got a new curling iron. All this, less than $60! That’s an awesome deal for me…

Anyway…Now that’s I’ve filled your comments with my nonsense…Have a nice weekend! :-)
