Vegas!!
by Ashley on April 9, 2009
- I got back yesterday. It’s time to return to the real world where it’s not socially acceptable to carry a drink around. We should change that.
- I love Vegas. I explained this longwindedly in my post last June about Vegas. Basically, in Vegas, it just seems like people are laid back and let it all hang out. I am not like that. So, it’s a nice break. I walk around in clothes I wouldn’t usually leave my apartment in, I’m comfortable sitting by the pool in my bathing suit, and I eat pretzels and pizza and hot dogs for every meal. Oh wait, I always eat terribly.
- I finally realized that I’m a real drinking light weight. Yeah, it doesn’t take much to get me tipsy, but even more than that, I get burnt out on drinking really quickly. I kept thinking to myself, “Ashley, your aunt and dad are currently fighting over who’s going to buy you that $12 drink, so make it good!” Except, after one or two, I just couldn’t do it anymore. I did get this drink with a light up, take home cup, so I’m pretty proud of that.
- I could watch the Bellagio fountain show all day. I’d seen it before, but this was my first time watching it at night. I just love it. Love!!!
- My skin is currently this strange color in between red and tan. The burn isn’t as bad as the last time I went to Vegas, but I’m still a little crispy.
- The reason we went to Vegas this weekend is because my sister is a big country fan, and she wanted to see the Academy of Country Music Awards. I didn’t really know anything about it. I hung out with my brother while my sister and dad went to the awards, and then we watched some of it later when it aired on the west coast, and I became extremely jealous, because everyone was there, including my future wife Taylor Swift! My family think it’s hilarious that I’m planning on marrying Taylor Swift, but they support us.
- I brought my MacBook Pro with me, because I never go anywhere without it. And, what’s crazy is that I didn’t even pull it out of the case. Not once. I forgot about it, actually. I think it’s resenting me now. A bit like a scorned lover. But, we have a relationship that even a few days a part can’t threaten, so we’ll be okay.
- I love sitting by the pool, especially when my dad is buying the margaritas.
- I gambled a total of $26–none of which was my own and all of which I lost. I’m not that into gambling. A little slot action is fun, but it’s just too much losing, and I have this weird thing where I like actually having things to show for my money.
- Cell phones make it really easy to keep track of the whole fam while vacationing in Vegas, but I swear that every meet up took at least 12 texts that were all like: We’re meeting by the rooms at 12. No, brother decided to get a pretzel, so we’re meeting by the entrance. Wait, he just walked in the room, so we’re meeting here. Brunch at 10. No, Ashley wants lunch, so we’re going to wait an hour. We’re by the bar. Which one? The one by registration. We’re at the one by registration and you’re not here. Oh, wait, I see you now. I’m just going to stop and get a giant margarita and I’ll be right over.
- I can’t believe how fast the time went. Monday and Tuesday are all confused in my mind–so much so that I almost forgot to take my daily picture on Tuesday and the result is that picture of me you might see over there where I’m red and makeup-less. Oh well. Vanity be damned. I keep thinking it’s Sunday, and not nearly the end of the week. Ahh! I still think paid vacation is the best thing ever.

Vegas sounds like so much fun! I’m trying to decide whether I want to do Vegas or a Cruise over winter break. Both sound amazing. I’m glad you had a good time!
Yay for Vegas! I’ll have to go back when I’m actually old enough to gamble and drink, haha!
I’m glad you had a great trip. I can’t wait to go to Vegas sometime. It sounds like an awesome place. When my fam went to Disney World, we had the same text message conversations.. a little crazy. I wonder how we did it before phones!
The warm weather, sunshine and pools all sounds really nice. Vegas is an interesting place- it’s this one outpost in the middle of the desert, with all these resort hotels. I don’t know, I think the whole idea or concept of Las Vegas is an interesting thing.
I also bring my MacBook Pro with me everywhere (EVERYWHERE), but I definitely would not forget about it, haha. But that’s just the way I am, I guess.
I think you should start a movement to make it socially acceptable to carry around a drink at all times. Actually, you can do that in New Orleans and Key West so maybe you just need to stay in those places?
I want to hang out with your family! They sound like fun haha.
You’re making me excited for when I go!
Vegas sounds like fun. I could use a little time to let it all hang out cause I’m usually uptight. My friend who went to Vegas made me watch a video of the Bellagio fountain and it was beautiful. :] I wish I could see it for myself.
How can I be as cool as you?
Looking at your photo, you are definitely a little on the pink side (no worries, I’d be much worse I’m sure).
Glad you had a great time. Hopefully one day, maybe I’ll make it to Vegas myself. I do, however, think I’ll be leaving with a bigger empty spot in my wallet though. When I gamble, I sadly make it count and lose hundreds. Eep!
awww, i totally watched the acm’s! country is the red-headed stepchild genre of music that i can’t help but love. and i’d have a crush on taylor swift if carrie underwood wasn’t around. lol.
it sounds like you had a lot of fun! you should take a picture of your drink cup, all lit-up and pretty!
I agree, it should be socially acceptable to talk around at any given time with a pretty drink in our hands.
Vegas sounds like so much fun! That is so neat that your dad and sister went to the ACM’s.
Paid vacations are glorious.
I’m on a mission to make it socially acceptable, but for now, it is in our house. (I realize you are talking about the streets).
