The Things I Didn’t Do in High School

by Ashley on March 19, 2009

Lisa and I have had a number of insightful conversations over the last week, including one in which we concluded that Jesus definitely does cruise around heaven in a cloud car with the Care Bears when he’s not on his Segway.  Here’s another about the things we didn’t do in high school.

Ashley: Sometimes I come across my fake ID and laugh at all the trouble we got into in high school.

Lisa: We were such crazy teenagers! All those late nights that I don’t remember because I was soooo drunk. Right.

A: I know. I feel like I missed half of high school, since I was so wasted. I could have gone to Harvard if I wasn’t such a partier.

L: I probably would have gotten a full-ride scholarship plus stipend to Harvard if I hadn’t partied so much. Craziness!

A: I’d be teaching classes at Harvard right now if I hadn’t been drunk and high all throughout high school.

L: Definitely. They probably would have renamed the school Ashley University.

A: Professor Ashley at Ashley University probably wouldn’t have time to write these messages.

In case you’re confused about this conversation, because you perhaps actually did things when you were high school–things that were maybe against the rules, things you wouldn’t want your parents to know about–know that Lisa and I did not.  I can’t think of a single rule we broke.

When it comes to high school regrets, I swing back and forth between wishing I’d loosened up more and had more fun and wishing I’d buckled down more and dedicated myself completely to studying.  But, as it was and as it usually is, real life fell between the extremes.

I was definitely a good girl in high school. I never drank/did drugs. I never went to questionable parties. I worked and went to school. How dull. Haha.

My HS teachers loved me, I was such a good girl. I’m still in touch with a couple of them. No drinking/smoking/questionable parties/ditching class, etc. And I have NO regrets!

Ha!

It’s funny, because I sometimes wish I hadn’t partied/did as much rebellious stuff as I did. Now I must preface everything by saying this is relative for me; partying in my terms was like being in a monastery for others. Maybe I’m just wondering whether or not devoting just a little bit more time to school stuff would have been better. But I think I did pretty well for myself based on where I am today. But I think we all have those sorts of regrets but then you see that you’re doing well and happy on the path that you decided to take. But I’ve definitely thought the same way you did in the past.

I was also the good girl.. Sadness. I think sometimes that that is sad. Someone really should have taken us out and showed us a real good time.

I was the goody goody out of my group for a long time. Then I transfered schools so I could get a one up on college (my original high school was 5th worse in the state and I transfered to 5th best in the state for academics), where they were all school driven and focused on college – for the most part. I know I was a nerd. I didn’t even drink or do anything slightly wild until I went off to college. Even then I was really focused on school.

I sometimes wished I would have loosened up, had a little more fun, but then again I regret not taking a AP english and that AP Chemistry class. Oh well.

Professor Ashley at Ashley University sounds like she means business! :p

There are things back when I was at High School that I wish I’d done, but at the end of the day, I’m fairly happy with where I am right now, so I think that’s all that matters to me.

Sounds a whole lot like me!

I didn’t drink or party or do much of anything other than go to the mall/movies/dinner with my friends while in high school. I was too busy working 25 hours a week and dealing with an AP/honors-heavy course load. So I can definitely relate, even to looking back and wondering if things would’ve been different if I loosened up or even concentrated moreso on class.

Hahaha, that’s so funny, your guy’s sarcastic (texts?) cracked me up!

I was wild in high school and settled down in college. Sometimes I feel the same way you do, only about college, everyone else is out partying their face off and having SO much fun but not me. I’ve definitely had my chair of drunken nights in the past three years, but definitely no 3-day benders, or even any 2-day benders really. I have a serious boyfriend and I’m serious about school, so going out has been pushed down on the priority list. I would definitely say I swing back and forth between regretting it and not… I dunno!

Wow, this post really made me think today :-)

I was like this, too. I think the most rebellious thing I did back then was sneak into an R-rated movie.

I was such a good kid in high school. I stayed out with some girlfriends after I told my mom we were home for the night to line dance at a local festival once. That was probably the only bad thing I ever did. Sometimes I wish I’d been a little more relaxed about everything…but then I realize that’s totally not my personality, even now.

Also in the “good” girl club. Um, but then I got to college and realized “bad” was kind of exciting. That lasted 4 years. Now, I’m back to “good” with “semi-bad” tendencies. It’s all about balance, right?

I was pretty much a goody-goody in high school as well. I didn’t break the rules very often, and when I did, they weren’t BIG rules.

I never even considered doing anything bad. What was wrong with us?!? I think I left school 5 minutes early once and I thought I was the world’s biggest rebel.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person I know who a) didn’t really drink in high school and b) actually LIKED high school!
