Confessions and Random Thoughts

by Ashley on March 3, 2009

I haven’t done a post like this in a while. But, real quick, I just wanted to say thanks for all your congratulations on my acceptance post. You’re the best, and I was so excited to share the news with you all.

  • I don’t swear much. Really, I don’t usually swear at all. I was in my twenties before I even started saying things like damn and hell. I guess I just didn’t jump on that boat when I was younger, because I was such a goody goody, and then I was stopped from ever joining in later, because it was so out of character that people would laugh at me. But, lately I’ve been a bit looser with my language. Usually just with myself, but recently someone cut me off when I was in the car with a friend, and said, “Shit!” before I even knew what was coming out of my mouth. Maybe I’ve just been watching too much SATC.
  • I can’t even look at wine right now.
  • I’m addicted to blogging. I blog when I should be doing other things. I love to throw my ideas out there and hear back on them. I take the whole thing more seriously than a lot of other bloggers.
  • I’m not addicted to twitter. I like it and check it regularly, but I often feel no need to jump in. There are times when there’s a real conversation going on, though, and it’s so much fun!
  • I have majorly, seriously been procrastinating on my thesis. This behavior isn’t abnormal for me, but wow. I need to just get going, so that I can work on other things–like my novel!
  • I think coffee makes me sneeze.
  • I have been reading John Green’s Looking for Alaska at a glacial pace.
  • I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift for the last week, and it’s only because other bloggers talked about her. Wow, she is not my normal kind of music at all, but she’s awesome. And, I might have a bit of a crush on her.
  • I don’t mind living in a studio apartment. I would like a comfortable bed, though. Enough of this pancake IKEA futon mattress crap.
  • It only took a few months for me to start looking completely weird to myself when I don’t wear my glasses. Weird how a few months can erase the majority of my 25 years of being glasses free.
  • I really like being 25. I think it’s a good age. And, yeah, I’d like to go back to high school knowing what I know now and be a super well-adjusted, kick-ass student. But, that’s not happening and I don’t mourn the fact.
  • Sometimes I put words together in combinations that I’m not sure make any sense. They just fall out of my head that way.
  • I haven’t seen Adorable Boy in a while. Ah, sadface.
  • Blogging has never come up much in my real life. If anyone I know blogs, then they keep it a secret like I do or it’s something they write just for their family and friends to keep up with them. I don’t know anyone on twitter either. But, recently my step-sister has started a blog, and she even added my personal twitter account, which I’ve never used. I wonder if Real Ashley will one day threaten Blog Ashley like Relationship George threatened Independent George.
  • There’s a discussion question up on Twenty Something Writers. Go answer it! And, while you’re over there, subscribe to the blog, so that I don’t have to keep pimping it out here.

I’m going to be a bit MIA from the blogosphere for the next couple days, because it’s super major crunch/crisis time on the thesis, and I’ve been way too distracted by blogging. I’ll still be posting and I’ll still be checking my email, but I may not be commenting or twittering much.  If you’re new to my blog, then I’ll be stalking you soon enough, and if you’ve been here a while, then you know I can’t stay away for long. I’ll see you on the other side when chapters one and two are written!

Good luck on your thesis, and thank you for sharing your confessions :)

Good luck! And I totally know what you mean about procrastinating. I’ve been so bad the past week. Time to buckle down and do some work.

I also blog when I should be doing other things…in fact, I’m at work right now. -__-

Good luck with your thesis!

Good luck on the thesis- taking a blogging/internet break is probably a good idea, so you can get your writing momentum built up.

I think Twitter is pretty addicting, but you have to get past that “feeling no need to jump in” feeling. There’s ALWAYS need to jump in, haha.

Taylor Swift + Me = Guilty as Charged
I’m in the exact same situation as you… but her songs are so damn catchy!
(Also, it’s ironic that I used “damn” there, because I used to be the same goody-goody as you, but I got over feeling awkward about it around 18 and now I swear like a sailor)

I love Taylor Swift too, even though when I proclaim my love for her I get laughed at. :( I used to be addicted to blogging, it was all I thought about, but I guess it wore off for me, as my usual “obsessions” usually do.

I am exactly the same about bullet point #1! Taylor Swift is on the cover of my Self magazine and I had no idea who she was. Apparently I’m the only one! I gotta check her out.

I enjoyed “Looking for Alaska” and I really enjoyed “Paper Towns”. It’s “An Abundance of Katherines” that I’m having a hard time reading.

I’m glad you like being 25. I just started my quarterlife crisis and struggling at the thought of turning 25 this year.

What is it about Taylor Swift that makes her so irresistable?! That girl is made of magic, I swear. And if you’re not convinced, watch her Ellen appearances on youtube. Completely worth the time that could have been spent doing you know, important things.

And, because I’m pretty sure I forgot to comment on the acceptance blog – Congratulations!! That’s such great news :)

1) Good luck on the thesis. I’m sure you’ll kick it’s ass (does that even make sense?)
2) I heart the new blog. You guys really pulled something great off in a short period of time. I’m impressed!

Great confessions! I don’t curse much either and I’m also not addicted to Twitter :)

Where the hell is Adorable boy? Did he fall off the face of the earth?

25 is much better than I was expecting it to be. 26 also sounds like it will be good. I’m worried about 27. Not only is it an odd number, but it’s just plain old.

Um, you know me on twitter! Just because I’ve only had the account for three days and haven’t used it once doesn’t mean that you don’t know me! And you can have conversations on twitter??? I feel so out of it.

Loved the Seinfeld reference; so solid. And I also didn’t curse growing up. Actually, I still don’t. It has become a challenge, trying to find creative ways to not say a certain 4-5 words in the English language.

–I too loved the Seinfeld reference! I hope your worlds don’t collide like George’s :).
– My guilty music pleasure is carrie underwood, totally not my usual taste but I’m hooked.
–I love that writing blog you guys are doing, awesome idea by the way, and am hoping to participate in someway, but I’m a procrastinator and haven’t even responded to the first prompt :(

1) Great list.
2) Great writing.
3) I too still have an uncomfortable ikea mattress. But oh was it cheap!

If any of my real life friends have blogs they haven’t shared that either. I always wonder my two worlds will collide and what will happen when they do. I love Taylor Swift. White Horse is one of my favorite songs on the new CD. Good luck on your thesis.

Great list! Mattresses are a good thing! Eric’s mom always told us to not scrimp on supportive mattresses and good shoes, because they dictate how comfortable the rest of your life will be.

I am trying to be better about not looking at Twitter, but it is so hard because of the constant access with my iPhone.

Good luck working hard! I was going to ask you for a guest post, but it looks like that will have to come some other time. Let us know how your writing comes along.

I have a hard time acutally saying anything on Twitter anymore. Most of the time it is just random thoughts once or twice a day. but other then that (like the weekends) I don’t go on it at all.

Hmm…not too keen on the whole Taylor swift thing. Still not a fan.

Good luck on the Thesis. Can’t wait to read more of your book!!!
