Got something in the mail today.
Dear Ashley:
I am delighted to inform you that upon the recommendation of the faculty, you have been admitted to the Ph.D. in Religion program beginning with the 2009 Fall term. This offer reflects our positive assessment of your academic and professional promise and our sincere hope that you will choose to become a part of our scholarly community.
I’m actually shaking, which is a total overreaction, but I can’t help myself. I’ve spent the last two months freaking out more than I’ve even admitted here, and I feel like I can finally take a deep breath.
I thought about what I would write here, but now I can’t think of anything. I’m sure I’ll have more words later. For now, I’m having trouble typing. The thing is that when you don’t know what’s going to happen, you try to convince yourself it will be okay no matter what, but this is my life and this is my dream and it would have been devastating to be stopped in my tracks, especially considering how hard I’ve worked for this.
As for the school itself. It’s the one across the street from where I go now. I’d be working with my same professors–the ones who already know me well. It’s easily the program that fits me best, and unless a miracle occurs and I get accepted into a kick-ass, fully-funded program, it’s where I’ll be come Fall 2009.
And, yeah, I almost had a heart attack in the mail room, and did some kind of a skip-run home.
