Finally Friday

by Ashley on January 30, 2009

This week, Friday was a long time coming. But, the week is over, and soon January will be over too. I have high hopes for February. February is a hard word to say, and I’ve been saying it a lot lately, because books are coming up due in February, and I have to tell all the library patrons when their books will be due.

On to the bullets!

  • I always find it very strange when people write super serious posts, and then move right on to lighter stuff without acknowledging what they’ve said previous. That said, I don’t know what to say about yesterday’s post, except thank you for your insanely thoughtful comments and emails. Cliches be damned, hearing from you made me feel less alone, and, honestly, I think I’ve made this worse for myself by trying to deal with it without any help from anyone. The thought of really doing something about my anxiety is taking a while to sink in. I’ve really never been in a situation like this. I will keep you updated.
  • I don’t know why I lie by saying things like, “I don’t know what to say.” If blogging has taught me anything, it’s that I have a crap ton to say.
  • I have been wearing the most awesome dark gray metallic nail polish all week. Actually, it’s been chipping off all week, and though I usually keep my polish in good shape, this week I’m a disaster. Luckily, chipped nail polish doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers other people.
  • Talking about my novel on the blog this week was so much fun. A few people said they might be interested in talking more about writing, and I know there are several of us who are working on novels or thinking about it. Of course I absolutely always want to talk about writing. From grammar to publishing and everything in between, well, I’m all about it, so hit me up.
  • I’m reading Paper Towns, which if you don’t know is a young adult book by John Green. I’m a fan of John’s from YouTube, but I haven’t read any of his work before this. Honestly, so far I’m not loving it as much as I expected. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I actually feel as if, as a reader myself, I’ve somewhat outgrown the young adult genre that I have always loved.
  • Speaking of reading, yeah, I don’t do it much anymore. Reading is so important to writing, so it’s embarrassing to admit how little fiction I read these days. I say I don’t have time. It’s true. But, I don’t have time for a lot of the things I do, and yet I still do them. The whole act feels somewhat foreign to me. Reading for school, I often scan several books in a short amount of time. That’s a very different way of reading, and it isn’t at all relaxing. Sitting still with a book, reading almost every word, it’s weird to me now, which is surprising considering how much of my life I’ve spent with a book in front of my face. I mean, part of the reasons I wear glasses now is that I held my books too close to my face!
  • Today is going to be a good day. I got a later deadline on some research I’m doing for a professor. I have two days off from work. I’m getting my hair cut. And, the best news of them all, I just found out that the library has purchased the DVDs for every season of Sex and the City. What? Yeah, I know what I’ll be watching for a while.

Thank you for an awesome week in blogging. I just feel really fortunate having so many awesome blog friends. You have a great weekend, you hear?!

Thanks for the support! I didn’t comment on your post yesterday because I read it during work, but I really think that faces your fears about possible anxiety is brave and very smart. While I don’t think I have anxiety, I think I sometimes have some depression and some nerves. I always have feared going to the doctor because I don’t have super strong symptoms, but your post inspired me to make a possible call.

I’m glad that you got so many positive responses yesterday! The support in the blogging community is totally amazing!

I would LOVE to chat more about writing. I’m dieing too know how you fostered such an amazing talent. Did it come naturally too you? Have you taken classes etc. I’ve been trying to read more because I definitely agree that reading all kinds of different styles and genres is very important for someone who wants to write! Have a good weekend!

ooh I just painted my nails dark grey metallic last night, and my toes bright pink metallic :) Enjoy the SATC watching! I own seasons 1-4 and I really need a refresher on 5 and 6. You have a great weekend too!

I agree, the blogging community is amazing. I havent actually read what you posted about your novel yet, but its starred for me to read this weekend when I have time to sit down and enjoy it. I have been kicking around the idea of writing a book too but it always seems so daunting.

Polished nails make me happy and I did mine last night in a dark berry color.

Have a great weekend!

I miss reading too. Well, reading books I actually want to read. I thought I was the only person who has difficulty transitioning from reading for school and reading for pleasure, because now I find myself skimming through real books, just like I skim through criminal procedure and antitrust. So sad. One day I’ll be done with school and I can go back to reading like a normal person. I think I’ll start reading books for pleasure again in late May (hint hint).

You know what I have been doing non-stop for the past couple weeks? Watching back to back Sex and the City episodes on DVD. I’m so addicted it’s embarassing. They are just so darn entertaining.

Ahh! I have so much to say

I always post something light and amusing after posting something serious. Mostly because I don’t want people to think I am depressing or emo. Ridiculous, yet true.

In December I realized that I haven’t been reading a lot (at all?) so I got suggestions and compiled a list of books. Now I read at night rather than randomly surfing the web or watching trashy TV.

I looove the idea of dark metallic nail polish Also, my nail polish is always chipping. It drives my boss crazy.

One more thing – I LOVE Sex & the City. I’ve watched every season on DVD (I didn’t like the show when it was actually on the air, I think I just didn’t really pay attention). It’s up there with the Gilmore Girls for me.

P.S. I love getting email responses to comments. It makes me happy!

My “fun” reading has definitely curtailed over the past year or so. By the time I get done with all my reading for class, my eyes and brain are too tired to handle reading much of anything.

I’d definitely be interested to hear the pre-writing and organizational processes you used to write your novel. I’ve always wonder how people did it and now I can find out from you!

Have a great and Sex and the City-filled (I’m assuming?) weekend!

I love reading and critiquing writing, and I thought I would love writing too. I started out writing short stories and articles with a little success, but eventually figured out that my heart just isn’t into it! I can’t wait to read more of you stuff.

Have a good weekend!

Yay for good days! I watch most of my tv from library dvds. It’s truly a wonderful thing.

I love metallic nail polishes, but it’s so hard for me to keep mine on as much as I’m on the computer or writing.

As for books, since the semester started I have done virtually zero leisure reading beyond a magazine. It kills me because I’m a bookworm.

Have a great weekend!
