Don’t Tell Me You’re Joking

by Ashley on June 4, 2008

Twice in the last week people have told me they were joking. As in, they said something not that funny, I dryly responded, they interpreted that response as me being dead serious, and then they each told me they were joking. As in, hey weird girl who has no sense of humor, I just said something that you didn’t get. Out of pride, I want to say, “Uh, I did get it, and even though I didn’t find it funny, I graciously joked back. That’s where things broke down.” But, I guess my thinking is that if people consistently misunderstand you (read: me), then you (again me) should probably take some responsibility for that. New plan: laugh really loud at all jokes, funny or not!

Been there. I don’t laugh if I don’t find it funny and people aren’t always clear that they are joking around so I take them seriously. Then am lost when they are like jk. Really? Makes me feel f’ed with. And I dislike that feeling.
